Hello dear backers, 

We are thrilled to announce that we successfully shipped our first batch of 100 fully finalized Mangrove Sunglasses on Friday 26th of May, and a second batch of 200 last Friday! We are ramping up toward our target of assembling and shipping 400 pairs per week. 

Here is the culmination of 10 months of hard work and dedication as we reach a significant milestone toward our vision of regenerative eyewear that cleans the planet. 

The Journey from Mangrove Waste to Mangrove Sunglasses

The past ten months have been nothing short of incredible. From the initial idea to creating and launching our campaign, to organizing the biggest Mangrove cleanup in history, setting up our workshop with all the equipment, and turning trash into these beautiful unique sunglasses. Delivery

Our progress remains consistent with the timeline provided in our last update. We are doing our best to stay on track with our planned schedule:
 1st: delivering to those who ordered only the Travel design. Shipping out during the end of May and the 1st half of June, arriving by mid-June and early July.
2nd: to those who combined Travel with City designs and/or with the Hard Case. Shipping out during the 2nd half of June, arriving during the first half of July.
3rd: to those who ordered only the city design. Shipping out during the 1st half of July, arriving by the end of July and the first half of August.
Note: This timeline is estimated, and there might be some unforeseen delays in the production of the mold or the components of the City and the Case from our 3rd party suppliers. These events could potentially push the timeline some weeks.
4th: If your order includes a mix of Travel or City designs with Adventure design, you have two options:
A: wait until September for us to ship them all together.
B: pay an additional $10 to have your Travel & City sunglasses, along with the Hard Case, shipped first by the end of June/beginning of July. The Adventure design will be shipped separately in September. This additional fee covers the extra shipping costs. If you choose this option, please email us at [email protected], and we will provide you with a PayPal link.

Batch #1 Shipping Out Next Week! + Cleaning Bali's Mangroves

Dear Backers, 

We're thrilled to bring you the latest news on our journey to create regenerative eyewear that cleans the planet instead of polluting it. Read along to stay tuned!

Travel Design
 We've been hard at work perfecting the Travel frames production. After meticulous testing to find the ideal plastic mix and color formula, we have successfully produced the first 200 pairs of Travel frames in Obsidian Black color. We combined the polypropylene plastic we recovered from the Mangroves + other polypropylene collected from the coastal cities of Bali and Java.

As we continue to streamline our process, we're getting ready to produce the Ocean Blue frames starting today, followed by Rainbow White next week.  Next week we will also start the assembly stage of lenses and hinges. 

Next Friday 26th we'll ship the 1st batch of Travel sunglasses to the fulfillment center in Shenzen, China which will handle the global distribution to each of you. 

It will take about 1 week to arrive in Shenzen, plus 2-3 weeks from there to you. So the estimated arrival of the first batch at your doorstep is the second week of June onwards (June 15th+). 

We plan to send out the remaining travel sunglasses in weekly batches of approximately 400 units per week, with the goal of shipping all of them from our workshop by June 9th and arriving to you by the end of June/beginning of July. 

City Design & Hard Case

We’re advancing with the manufacturing of the mold of the City design and the hard case, and aiming to receive the molds from England by mid-June. 

With the molds in hand, we will swiftly move into the production phase, aiming to start shipping out the City Sunglasses and the Hard Cases in weekly batches during the 2nd half of June and the first half of July.

Adventure Design

As mentioned in our previous update, we plan to start production of the Adventure design in August/September, with shipments scheduled to leave our workshop in September.

Delivery

We will start delivering the orders following the schedule below:

1st: to those who ordered only the Travel design. Shipping out during late May and early June, arriving by mid-June and early July.

2nd: to those who combined Travel with City designs and/or with the Hard Case. Shipping out during the 2nd half of June, arriving during the first half of July.

Bali Mangrove Cleanup

We are thrilled to share that we have expanded our mangrove cleanups to Bali, as part of our ongoing commitment to collect 20 tons (45,000 lbs) of waste. With the rainy season behind us in Bali, we have chosen to focus on cleaning up the local mangroves.  They face similar pollution challenges as those in Manila and their proximity to our production workshop simplifies the process of transforming mangrove waste into mangrove sunglasses.

On May 6th & 7th, we successfully organized our first Bali mangrove clean up and managed to remove an impressive 3,120kgs (7,076 lbs) of trash. We invite you to watch the one-minute video below to witness the action that your sunglasses enabled:

The polypropylene we recovered in these cleanups will also be recycled into your sunglasses, along with other polypropylene materials sourced from the coast of Bali and Java.

To date, we have collected a total of 8 tons (17,800 lbs) of trash from the mangroves, bringing us 40% closer to our ultimate goal. We remain committed to our cause and will continue cleaning up these mangroves every two weeks until we reach our target of 20 tons.

The Travel Frame molds have arrived and production started!

Dear Backers,

We're thrilled to share that the Travel Frame molds have finally arrived from England! 

We are excited to announce that we have successfully crafted the first pair of sunglasses made from 100% recycled mangrove plastic in the world, using the trash we collected in the Philippines.

This milestone marks an incredible step for our mission to turn environmental plastic waste into high-quality products. A dream that started  4 years ago when we were traveling South America together with William and we decided to clean our planet by using business as a force for good. 

It is all happening thanks to you, our amazing backers.

We also experimented with various kinds of trash including blue covid face masks and red mangrove plastic.

We believe that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand, and we're excited to pioneer new methods of eyewear production that are circular, ethical, and creative.

Rory, our Head of R&D for the project, who designed the machines and molds, flew from England to train our workshop team this week. 

We aim to produce 100 sunglasses per day and start shipping the 1st batch of Travel frames by the end of May.

Timeline and Updates

After having tested the travel molds successfully, we will advance with the City and Case molds, applying some improvements that will simplify our production. Here is the estimated timeline for them.

• Molds design: 1st week of May 
• Molds production in England: 2nd-4th weeks of May
• Test and ship molds to Bali: 1st week of June
• Production and delivery: 2nd half of June -> mid-July

With this timeline in mind, we aim to deliver all orders between May and July. We will be shipping them in batches, following the order of backers. Keep in mind that this timeline is estimated, and some delays may occur, especially regarding mold production, shipping, and customs which are out of our direct control.

Adventure Frame:

• Production and shipping are expected to occur in August/September.

1,823 Mangrove Trees Planted! Workshop is ready for production

Dear Backers,

On March 29th, our reforestation team planted 1,823 mangrove trees for each pair of sunglasses that you backed in this campaign!

We are planting these trees on Kelapa Dua island in Northern Java, Indonesia. Our goal is to reforest the whole island to create the PANGEA Mangrove forest, a big natural carbon sink powered by the sales of our products. Each tree will sequester about 500kgs (1,000 lbs) of CO2 during its lifespan, making your sunglasses carbon negative.

PANGEA Plastic Innovation Center

We have finished renovating our recycling workshop and we are ready to start producing your Mangrove sunglasses when the Travel molds arrive from England.

Production and timeline update

We are experiencing delays with the production of the travel mold in England. The manufacturer was supposed to finish it by the end of March, but they pushed it to this week. We are following up constantly. This extends our delivery date of the Travel design from April to May.

Here are the steps we previously communicated to you, and the updated timeline:

• Philipines Mangrove Cleanup: DONE. We are arranging to clean the additional 15 tons of trash in Bali between this and next month (April and May)
• Wash the mangrove's polypropylene and ship it to our workshop in Bali: DONE. We will shred it next week
• Finish setting up our workshop: DONE
• Produce the sunglasses molds in England : Feb->March. DELAYED, aiming at April 14th
• Place the order of sunglasses components (lenses, hinges & packaging): DONE.Waiting for the components to arrive at our workshop this month
• Complete your Backerkit survey: DONE
• Plant the 1800 mangrove trees (one for each pair sold): DONE
• Receive molds and start producing the Travel design and hard case: We aim to receive and start producing at the end of this month, hopefully, there will be no further delays from the manufacturer. 
• Start delivering  the first batch of Travel sunglasses: Updated to May
• Start producing and delivering the City design & the Hard Case: we are also experiencing a delay from the designer so this is also postponed from May to June

 We apologize for the inconvenience of the delays, we expected that some of these could happen. Rest assured that we are following up constantly and doing our best to deliver great sunglasses as fast as possible.

Adventure Design

Dear backers, 

We heard that several of you wanted to wait for the Adventure frames, so we decided to add them to the Bacerkit survey to keep things more organized. 

If you'd like to get your hands on the Adventure Frame, you can open and modify your order, and choose your Adventure sunglasses until March 26, 2023. Book them now until we start producing them!

Since IndieGoGo funding is a bit slow and it doesn't seem the campaign will hit $200k soon, we decided to produce them in Q3, confirmed. So if you choose to wait, we will start producing and delivering them to you separately in September. 

If you don't want to wait, the timeline for the other designs remains the same:

- Travel Sunglasses: we aim at producing and start delivering in April (if we encounter no problems with the mold).

- City Sunglasses & Hard Case: aiming at May

This way, you can split your order and receive your other sunglasses first, and the adventure frames later.
