Backerkit Survey
We're happy to announce that the Backerkit survey is fully set up! There was a delay in getting the final renders of the case from the designer, but they are now ready. Apologies for that, we will be sending the survey for testing early next week and the general roll-out will be on Thursday, March 16th in the end.
Here are the renders of the case!
Designed to fit the Mangrove Sunglasses perfectly
We will be handcrafting them ourselves from the recovered mangrove plastic. Please let us know your comments and if you would like us to change anything. There is still time for some changes.
Mangrove Cleanup Video
As promised in the last update, we're thrilled to share the video of the mangrove cleanup. Check out the amazing impact you've made and the source of your future sunglasses.
As we also promised, here is the official certificate from the Department of Energy and Natural Resources from the Philipines that were on site verifying the amount of trash collected and the number of volunteers who participated.
Other points
We're excited to report that the mangrove plastic has been washed, sorted, and is on its way to us in Bali. We expect it to arrive in about 7 days.
The travel sunglasses molds are currently under production in England and should be ready by the end of March. Once they are ready, the designer will test them, and if everything checks out, he will bring them to Bali to train our workshop team so we can start producing and delivering in April.
We are placing the order for the lenses, hinges, and packaging, which should be ready in 2 weeks.
We will start advancing with the planting of the 1,800 mangrove trees next week.
We appreciate your support and we are excited to keep bringing this project to life, step by step.
Life is a journey, and we are enjoying the ride. Thanks for riding with us!
Stay tuned for the Backerkit survey next week, and our next update about the mangrove planting!
With love,
Marcos & the Pangea team
World’s Biggest Mangrove Cleanup in one day: DONE! ✅
about 3 years ago
– Wed, Mar 01, 2023 at 06:39:10 AM
Dear Backers,
We are thrilled to announce that on Sunday 19th your sunglasses powered the biggest mangrove cleanup in one day ever!
We gathered an amazing 1,400 volunteers at Las Pinas Paranaque Wetland Park in Manila, Philippines, and managed to collect 10,882 lbs (4,909 kgs) in 8 hours from the mangrove forest and the coast. This is equivalent to 152,000 plastic bottles!
Based on our research, this is the biggest mangrove cleanup ever registered on the internet by the number of volunteers and trash collected in one day. So together we have set a world record!
These are the recovered plastic caps that will become your sunglasses
Thanks to your support, 782 bigbags full of trash have been pulled out from the roots of these beautiful mangrove trees and the coast, allowing them to breathe and grow strong again.
We also managed to collect a staggering 4,500 bottle caps that we will wash, shred, and recycle into your sunglasses!
Our Goal
We promised to clean 25 lbs of trash for every pair of sunglasses backed in this campaign.
Since we sold 1,800 pairs x 25lbs = we committed to cleaning a total of 45,000 lbs (20,250 kgs).
Although we were able to collect an impressive 10,882 pounds of trash, we are still 34,118 pounds short of our impact goal, and there are several areas of the mangrove forest that are still heavily polluted.
To address this, we are requesting a permit from the park authorities to continue cleaning on a daily basis until we reach the goal we promised for each pair of sunglasses. We will keep you updated on our progress.
During the cleanup, we were able to capture a lot of footage, and we are currently in the process of editing a video that we will share with you in our next update. Furthermore, we are proud to announce that we will receive an official certificate from the Department of Energy and Natural Resources, who were present to verify the impact of your sunglasses. We will include it in our upcoming update as well.
Card Payment
We would like to remind you that Kickstarter charges your cards during a 14 days window after the campaign ended.
For those that had their credit cards rejected, please correct your credit card information in the next 24 hours, before Thursday 2nd. If it remains uncorrected, we won't be able to send out your record-breaking Mangrove Sunglasses.
Post-Campaign Survey
Next week we will send out surveys to each and every one of you amazing supporters. The survey will allow you to:
-Confirm your pledge, sunglasses designs, and colors
-Choose extras and add-ons
-Confirm your shipping address, and pay for shipping
To ensure we stay on track with production and shipping, it's very important you get these surveys done quickly.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
That's all for now, folks. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on this journey toward a cleaner and more sustainable world.
In our next update, we will share some behind-the-scenes footage of the renovation we are implementing in our workshop. We are excited to show you more!
Thank you all for your continued support and for making a difference in the world. We can only do all this thanks to you.
Warm regards, Marcos and the Pangea Team

Dear backers,
I'm Marcos, Pangea's Co-Founder & CEO.
I am truly grateful for your incredible support and belief in our mission. Your enthusiasm has fueled our team with even more passion and determination to make a real difference in the world and bring our Mangrove sunglasses to life. Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.
Here are the steps we will follow to turn mangrove waste into your fantastic sunglasses:
The Mangrove Cleanup: happening today, Feb 19th, in one of the dirtiest mangrove forests in the world in the Philipines
Wash the mangrove's polypropylene and ship it to our workshop in Bali: next week
Produce the sunglasses molds in England and finish setting up our workshop: Feb->March
Place the order of sunglasses components (lenses, hinges & packaging): next week
Complete your Backerkit survey and choose your order details: 1st week of March
Plant the 1800 mangrove trees (one for each pair sold): 2nd week of March
Receive molds and start producing the Travel design and hard case: April (if there are no delays)
Start delivering the first batch of Travel sunglasses: April end
Start producing and delivering the City design, and potentially the Adventure design (if unlocked in our Indiegogo campaign): May
We are committed to executing the plan on schedule, but as we are creating the world's first sunglasses from recycled plastic sourced from a mangrove forest, we acknowledge that we may encounter unforeseen challenges along the way that can potentially affect the timeline. However, we assure you that we will work hard to overcome any hurdles that may arise.
We will keep you informed throughout the whole journey, and we won't rest until we successfully complete each step of the plan, and you receive your amazing Mangrove sunglasses.
💪
Stay tuned for the next update about the mangrove cleanup, it will be BIG!
With gratitude and excitement,
Marcos & the Pangea team
Together we can create a better future for generations to come.

This is the design you chose for the first stretch goal!
– Wed, Feb 15, 2023 at 02:19:01 PM
Hello again backers,
The results are in for the design of our first stretch goal!
With over 350+ responses, the majority of backers voted for the city design as originally planned.
The city design is sleeker and thinner, great for smaller faces and for less tough use than the Travel design.
We know that the backers who voted for the adventure design may be disappointed but to remind you, the adventure design will most likely be unlocked during our Indiegogo campaign when we reach $200k in the next month or two, or in Q2-Q3.
You can also keep your order, or a part of it, on hold, until we release the adventure design to maintain your unique launch discount.
Regardless of the design you choose, every single pair of sunglasses will help fund the world's biggest mangrove cleanup that will be happening this upcoming Sunday 19th, and plant new mangrove trees.
We're so excited to turn the trash from the clean-up into treasure in our workshop, and create your one-of-a-kind sunglasses while regenerating the planet ALL AT THE SAME TIME!
Thank you for your support and for making this happen together!
